Our Story

It All Began with Bob & Katy...

Our bishop, Bob Thornton, left home at age fifteen. He grew up on the streets of Springfield, Missouri, selling tamales and eventually became a brick mason. He wandered into an Apostolic church service one evening and committed his life to God.

In September of 1960 during a Labor Day service in Westphalia, Missouri, Bob felt an overwhelming call to begin a church in Lebanon.  Together, the Thornton's prayed and waited for the right time to move. Five years later on Easter Sunday, a church was born in Lebanon, Missouri. Thirteen people attended the first service and Harvest has been growing ever since.

Expanding the Vision...

In 1999, Bob and Katy's' son, Chris Thornton and his wife Joann, became the lead Pastor of Harvest Church. Today, with their family, they serve alongside a unified team of visionaries. They carry the same burden and calling that was first placed on our Bishop, Bob Thornton. Harvest's mission and continuing vision is to see Lebanon and surrounding communities find salvation in Jesus Christ.
Pastor Chris and Joann believe in servant leadership and rejoice in God's provision as they work alongside members of the local church in Kingdom-minded pursuit. The Thornton's continue to serve their community, sponsor missionaries across the globe,  support new ministries being planted, and shepherd well the Harvest Church Family.

Our Future...

Harvest is a multicultural, multigenerational church where every soul from any walk of life can grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ.  Our church community is made up of people of every age, demographic, background and culture. We each have a story,  an individual journey of faith. No matter where you are in your journey,  there is a place for you here. Everyone is welcome at Harvest as we continue to grow in our relationship with Christ daily - walking in the newness of life only He can give! We believe that as we pursue Christ, He will bless the work of our hands.

Our greatest passion is to see Jesus known for who He is and His kingdom glorified through the salvation of the world. There is no greater love than the love of Jesus. We want to share his goodness through service unto others, personal consecration and living a separated life of righteousness.   II Corinthians 6:17 & 7:1
